How to reset Groove Music app on Windows 10

Use this method to reset Groove Music if you’re having issues or if your collection is a mess.

Groove Music is now the default music player app on Windows 10, allowing you to listen to music from your PC, OneDrive, and the Store’s large music library. You can even use Cortana to control your music with voice commands on Groove.

The app has matured as Windows 10 has progressed, and Microsoft has added a slew of new capabilities. However, as with any software, you may experience some issues from time to time. It’s possible that your collection has become so large that it’s now a jumble, that you have a lot of playlists you don’t listen to, or that the Groove Music app on your device isn’t working properly.

Thankfully, there are a few options for reorganizing your music library and resolving any issues you may encounter while using the app on Windows 10.

To fix any issues, follow the steps in this Windows 10 guide to reset your cloud collection or the Groove Music app locally on your device.

If you have a Groove Music subscription and are merely seeking to reset your music collection stored in the cloud, you can always add your music back.

Follow these steps to reset your music collection:

1. Open the Groove Music app on your device.

2. In the top-left corner, click the hamburger icon.

3. At the bottom of the program, turn on the Settings (gear) button.

4. Scroll down to the Reset section and click the link that says “Delete your playlists and any music you’ve added or downloaded from the Groove catalog.”

5. Choose what you’d like to reset, such as:

  • Remove all of your songs from the Groove collection that I uploaded.
  • Delete all of the tracks I purchased (You can download any of these songs from the Explore later.)
  • All of my playlists should be removed. (This will not remove tracks from your collection.)

6. To finish the task, click the Reset now button after you’ve double-checked your settings.

These instructions apply to both Windows 10 and  Windows 10 Mobile.
