This instruction is for you if you want to rename your User folder on your Windows 10 machine. Changing your computer’s user name is a difficult task. To put it another way, there is a straightforward one-step solution to this problem. You cannot alter your username within your account because it has access to all folder attributes. However, there is a technique to rename the user folder.
To do so, simply follow these simple steps:

Method 1 – Create a new account
This step necessitates the creation of a new account.
Case 1 – For Windows 1o Users
STEP-1 ADD A NEW LOCAL USER ACCOUNT
Follow these steps to create a new standard local user account:
1. To access the Settings, tap Windows key+I.
2. Then click on “Accounts“.
3. Click on “Family & other users” on the left-hand side in the Settings windows.
4. To initialize the creation of an account on your computer, you must click on “Add a family member” under ‘Your Family‘.
* NOTE: To add an account for someone who isn’t in your family, scroll down in the same box and choose “Add someone else to this pc” under “Other users.”
Case 2 – For Windows 11 Users
1 – To open run, hold down the Windows key and the I key at the same time.
2 – Next, copy and paste the path listed below.

3 -At this point, click OK.
4 -Now, select Add Account from the drop-down menu.
5. Select “Add an Adult” as the account type and click “Continue.”
6. Finally, provide an email address and then click “Next” to begin the account creation process.
To finish the account creation procedure, follow the on-screen prompts.
STEP-2 SET THIS ACCOUNT AS AN ADMINISTRATOR
After you’ve created a new account, you’ll need to make it an administrator on your computer.
1. Type “Control Panel” into the Windows key.
2. Select “Control Panel” from the drop-down menu.
3. Select “Category” from the “View by:” drop-down menu.
4. Then, under ‘User Accounts,’ click “Change account type” to change the new status.
5. Both the old and new accounts will be shown in the Manage Accounts page.
6. Finally, select the new account.
[NOTE: “namanhcap” is the new account, and “trong nam cap” is the old account on our PC.]
7. Then, on the left-hand side of the Change an Account box, click “Change the account type.”
8. To make this account an administrator of this machine, select the radio-button next to “Administrator.”
9. Once you’ve completed these steps, click “Change Account Type” to save your changes.
Close the window of the Control Panel.
Your computer’s new administrator is the new account.
STEP 3 – RENAME THE NEW ACCOUNT
You can now quickly rename your previous account to whatever you like.
1. Select “Run” from the context menu of the Windows icon.
2. To launch the Control Panel, type “control” and then click “OK.”
3. Click on “Category” once more, as before.
4. Then, under ‘User Accounts,’ select “Change account type.”
5. Double-click the newly created account.
6. Select “Change Account Name” from the drop-down menu.
7. In the box, type the new account name.
8. To alter the name of the user account, click “Change Name.”
The Control Panel should now be closed.
STEP -4 REMOVE THE ADMINISTRATIVE RIGHTS OF THE OLDER ACCOUNT
Finally, we’ll deactivate the older account’s administrative permissions on your computer.
1. Simply right-click the Windows icon and select “Run.”
2. To launch the Control Panel, type “control” and then click “OK.”
3. Click on “Category” once more, as before.
4. Then, under ‘User Accounts,‘ select “Change account type.”
5. To modify the status of an older account, click it in the following box.
6. Select “Change the account type” from the drop-down menu.
7. This time, for an older account, choose “Standard” to make the account a regular computer user.
8. Then, to save the changes on your computer, click “Change Account Type.”
Reboot your PC after that. Log in to your account after resetting your device to see whether this works.
Method 2 – Modify Registry
By login into your computer with a different administrator account, you can rename the user folder.
STEP 1 – CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT
Use your main administrative account to log in to the system. Then take the following steps:
1. Press the Windows key and the “R” key at the same time.
2. After that, type in the following code. To get to the CMD terminal, hold down the ‘Ctrl+Shift+Enter‘ keys at the same time.

3. Simply copy-paste this line into the terminal and hit Enter to create a new user named ‘administrator.’
net user administrator /active:yes
Close the terminal after you see the message “The command executed successfully.” on your screen.
4. Right-click on the “Windows icon” to sign out.
5. Finally, select “Shut down or sign out.” Then select “Sign out.”
6. On your computer, you’ll see a list of accessible users.
7. In the bottom-left corner, click “Administrator.”
8. Then, to sign in to the account, click “Sign in.”
Because this is a new user on your computer, this process will take some time.
STEP – 2 SET THIS ACCOUNT AS AN ADMINISTRATOR
1. In the search box, type “Control Panel.”
2. Select “Control Panel” from the drop-down menu.
3. On the right-hand side, select “Category” from the “View by:” drop-down menu.
4. Then, under ‘User Accounts,’ select “Change account type.”
5. You’ll notice your old and new accounts in the Manage Accounts window.
6. Select the “Administrator” account from the drop-down menu.
7. To change the account type, click the “Change account type” button.
8. Here, select “Administrator” to make this account the computer’s administrator.
9. Finally, select “Change Account Type” to save your changes.
Close the window of the Control Panel. You can now effortlessly rename your previous account.
STEP 3 – RENAME YOUR ACCOUNT
You can now rename the previous account.
1. Then, hold down the Windows key + R.
2. Then, in the Run terminal, type this address and press Enter.

3. Right-click on your older account and select “Rename” from the Users folder that appears.
4. Give the folder whatever name you like.
(For example, the ‘Sambit’ folder has been renamed to “SambitK.”)
5. Now select “Run” from the context menu of the Windows icon by right-clicking on it.
6. Finally, type “regedit” into the command prompt and press Enter.
Important: Click “File” before making any changes in the Registry Editor. Then, to create a new backup on your computer, select “Export.”
This will create a new backup on your system that you can use in the event of a system failure.
7. After that, go to this location –
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
8. In the “ProfileList” area on the left, you’ll find a list of keys.
9. Check the value of the “ProfileImagePath” key on the right-hand side by clicking on the first one.
The value is the path of the user folder with which the key is connected.
[For example, we needed to find out the profile key connected with the user “Namcct” since we wanted to change his name.]
10. On the right-hand side, double-click the “ProfileImagePath” key.
11. The address of the profile it represents is the ‘Value data:’ in this case. Simply give the folder the same name as you did in Step -3.
(For instance, in Step -3, we renamed the “Namct” user folder to “Namanh.”) As a result, the value will be – this time.
12. Remember to press the “OK” button.
The Registry Editor window should now be closed. Restart your PC after that. Use the old account to log in to your computer.
