If you wish to reinstall Steam for whatever reason, you may not want to redownload the games. Is it possible to reload Steam without losing your games? Yes, it is correct. All you have to do now is make a backup of your games and restore them after reinstalling Steam. I’ll show you how to do that in this post.
You can back up and restore your Steam games using one of the two methods listed below.
How to Reinstall Steam Without Deleting Games
Method 1: Use the backup and restore feature on Steam
Steam’s backup and restore tool makes it simple to back up and restore your games.
You can back up your games before you reinstall Steam by following these steps:
1) Navigate to Steam -> Backup and Restore Games……
2) Choose Backup currently installed programs, then choose NEXT.
3) Choose the games you wish to back up, then click NEXT.
4) Choose a location you want to save the backup to, then click NEXT.
5) Enter the name and size of your backup file, then click NEXT. If you like, you can reinstall Steam after the backup is complete.
Note that you will not be able to back up saved games, custom multiplayer maps, or configuration files using Steam’s backup tool. It’s fine if you don’t require these files. However, if you want all of your files backed up, Way 2 is the way to go.
After you reinstall Steam, you can recover your games by following these steps:
1) Navigate to Steam -> Backup and Restore Games……
2) Choose Restore a previous backup, then choose Next.
3) Browse and pick the games you want to restore using the on-screen instructions. You can now play the games without having to redownload them.
Method 2: Make a copy of SteamApps folder
You can manually back up and restore games if you don’t want to use Steam’s backup and restore option.
Firstly, make a copy of the SteamApps folder.
The folder is saved at the following path by default for Valve-created games:
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\
The location of game saves in third-party games is determined by the game’s creator. If you’re unsure where the folder is located, you can inquire with the game’s developer.
Second, save the folder somewhere secure.
Move the content of your SteamApps backup to the new SteamApps folder after reinstalling Steam. You may then relaunch Steam with all of your games.
