You’ve probably heard of macOS Monterey, which is the latest operating system for Apple computers that replaces macOS Big Sur. However, did you know that there is an operating system that is similar to macOS but is a Linux distro with a macOS-like theme and appearance? If you didn’t already know, now you do. Because pearOS is a Linux distribution with macOS-like functionality (Kinda).
And in this article, I’ll show you how to install PearOS on your computer using a virtual machine.
How To Download Install PearOS on PC & Laptop
It’s a new Linux distribution based on Ubuntu, but with a macOS-like appearance. On their official website, I can currently see PearOS Catalina, PearOS ThiccSur, and ultimately PearOS Monterey. I’m going to utilize VirtualBox for this post, and then I’ll install PearOS Monterey inside of it.
Step 1: I’ll use open-source virtualization software because PearOS Monterey is an open-source operating system. It’s called VirtualBox, so the first step is to get both of them, which you can do by clicking on the links below.
Step 2: After you’ve downloaded the necessary software, you’ll need to install it on your computer. Then you’ll need to establish a separate virtual machine dedicated to PearOS; you may call it Ubuntu if you want. Alternatively, you can follow the methods outlined below.
- Open VirtualBox and tap the New button.
- When the virtual machine wizard in VirtualBox is launched, select expert mode.
Step 3: Give the virtual machine a name and ensure that the operating system type is Linux with the other 64-bit Linux operating system. You can use the screenshot below as a guide.
Step #4: You must enter the quantity of storage that PearOS Monterey requires. For testing purposes, I’ll use 100 GB of storage, however, 20 GB will enough.
Step #5: From the settings, we must connect PearOS Monterey to the Virtual Machine. In the settings> Storage section and add the ISO Image to VM.
Step #7: After turning on the VM, wait a few moments for the OS to boot up. To install the PearOS Monetary, double-click on the PearOS Monterey icon.
1. Select a language and then proceed to the next step.
2. Choose your location and move on.
3. Select a Keyboard and choose next.
4. To wipe everything and move on to the next stage, click erase the disk.
5. Fill up the blanks with your personal information and then your password.
6. Wait until all of the files have been copied to the Virtual machine.
7. After the installation is complete, restart the computer and ensure that the PearOS Monterey ISO is no longer present.

If you’ve never used a macOS operating system before, you won’t be able to install it on a virtual machine or on a PC. It’s a good chance to at least get a feel for how macOS’ interface settings work. PearOS is a free and open-source operating system that you may install on your computer or virtual machine.
