How To Insert & Edit text boxes, links & comments in Microsoft Word for Android

Text boxes are a terrific way to place text in an unusual location within a document, and you can also design them to look beautiful. Also, links are a fantastic approach to provide your document’s readers extra information, and comments are helpful when working in a group. All of these capabilities are accessible in Microsoft Word for Android, and we’ll show you how to utilize them in this guide:

NOTE: To format paragraphs in your document, open Word, create a new document, and insert text, or open an existing document before continuing.

How to edit text boxes in Microsoft Word for Android

Once you’ve put the text box into your document, it operates like any other shape, so you can modify it just like any other shape: for more information on editing shapes in Word for Android, read this tutorial. Within the text box, you may also modify the text alignment and rotation. To do so, select the text box from the Shape menu and hit Text.

The text alignment options are identical to those discussed in this tutorial for tables. Horizontal alignment is controlled by the top row of icons: press them to align text to the Left, Center, or Right. Vertical alignment is controlled by the icons in the second row: tap them to align text to the Top, Middle, or Bottom of the text box. The text has been positioned to the box’s Center and  Bottom.

To modify the text rotation, go to the Text menu and select “Text Rotation.”

Horizontal is the default choice, however, you can change it to “Rotate all text 90°” or “Rotate all text 270°.” We’ve rotated all of the text by 90 degrees in this case.

To change the default text in the text box, tap it and then select “Edit Text” from the popup menu.

After the popup has vanished, you can begin inputting and altering text in the box. You can format the text with any of the tools from the Home menu, just like any other text in the project. This tutorial will teach you how to format text in Word for Android. If you plan to use the text box for more than one paragraph, you should also read about formatting paragraphs.

Simply press the text box’s border again and select Delete from the popup menu.

How to insert links in Microsoft Word for Android

Choose a portion of text, a picture, or a shape to insert a link.

After that, tap Link in the Insert menu.

When you enter the link on a picture or shape, the Link window appears with the selected text in the Text to display field (you won’t see this if you insert the link on a photo or shape). Enter the address you want to connect to in the Address area.

To insert the link, tap Insert.

If you wish to change or remove the link, press it: a window with more options will appear. “Open Link” will open the link in the default browser on your device, “Edit Link” will open the Link window, where you may edit the address, and “Remove Link” will remove the link from the text, photo, or object.

How to insert comments in Microsoft Word for Android

Select a section of text, a photo, or a shape to insert a comment. Then press Comment from the Insert menu.

You will be sent to the comment editor, where you can type your comment. Your name, as well as the time when the remark was made, will be visible. To add your comment to the document, type it in and then press Done.

Comments in a document will appear as small text box icons on the right side of the document. To leave a remark, tap it.

The comment editor will reopen, and you’ll be able to view the author and time of the remark’s entry. If it’s your comment, you can easily change it. The first two icons above the remark can be used to swiftly navigate to the document’s “Previous comment” or “Next comment,” while the third icon can be used to Delete the comment.

Reply to a comment by tapping the fourth icon; the reply will show below the original comment.

Conclusion

Aside from basic text editing and formatting, Microsoft Word for Android has a lot of other capabilities. Text boxes are useful for drawing a reader’s attention to something significant or manually aligning text inside a document, while links can provide users with other information. Comments are the foundation of collaborative editing, which we’ll go over in more depth in a later course. Fortunately, all of this is available for free with the Android app.
