Fix: WhatsApp Notifications Not Working

In this tutorial, learn how to fix WhatsApp Notifications not working on Android.

Don’t you hate it when you send someone a WhatsApp message and they wait an eternity to read it? Either they aren’t receiving WhatsApp notifications or they are ignoring your messages.

In any case, it’s a problem that needs to be addressed. If they’ve notified you that they’re not getting any notifications for the messages, consider the following suggestions to resolve the problem.

How To Enable Notification Sound and Vibration

You may have forgotten how you set it up, or someone may have decided it was amusing to modify your WhatsApp notification settings without telling you.

To check or switch on your notifications’ sound and vibration, go to:

  • Go to Settings by tapping the three dots in the upper right corner (as soon as you start WhatsApp).
  • Select Notifications.
  • Conversation tones can be turned on or off.

You may customize the length of the vibration with the vibrate option. You can select from a variety of choices, including:

  • Default
  • Short
  • Long

The Popup notification option displays a window of the most recent WhatsApp message you’ve received. Whatever you’re doing, the window will be right in front of you.

Swipe down a little farther and you’ll see the same options, but this time they’ll apply to group notifications. Use high priority notifications is an option in the notifications section that you should enable.

UnMute Notifications

Another reason you may not be receiving WhatsApp alerts is that you have silenced that individual. Maybe you neglected to unmute that user’s WhatsApp notifications after you muted them.

The procedures below apply to both group and individual chat notifications. Tap the three dots in the top right corner of the individual or group conversation. Once you’ve selected UnMute notifications, you’re ready to go.

No Internet Connection

Many things in life are taken for granted, and one of them is your Internet connection. The stability of your Internet connection will be determined by the mobile carrier you use. Make sure your mobile data is turned on as well.

Background Data Restriction

To allow WhatsApp to run in the background on Android Oreo, you must enable a setting. This could explain why you aren’t receiving notifications if this option is turned off.

To turn this feature on, go to:

  • Settings
  • Apps & notifications
  • App info
  • WhatsApp
  • Data usage
  • Enable Background data option

Keep WiFi on During Sleep

You won’t get your alerts on time if you don’t have the Keep WiFi on while sleeping option enabled. To turn on this function, go to your device’s settings and select:

  • Network & Internet
  • WiFi
  • WiFi preferences
  • Keep WiFi on during sleep
  • Choose Always

Turn Off Do Not Disturb

You may have turned on Do Not Disturb while in a meeting and then forgotten to turn it off. To turn it off, swipe down twice from the top of your screen. Turn off Do Not Disturb by swiping left once.
