In this article, learn how to fix WebGL is not supported on Chrome or Firefox?
WebGL, or Web Graphics Library, is a JavaScript API that allows it to generate dynamic 2D and 3D graphics on any web browser that supports it without the need for third-party plugins. It complies with web standards, allowing it to produce visuals and physics as part of a web page using GPU acceleration. It has a significant impact on a web page’s overall performance. It works with a number of web browsers, including Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and others. However, there are situations when it does not function well or is not enabled; we will learn how to remedy this today.
How To Enable WebGL on Chrome & Firefox
A variety of variables can contribute to this problem. Both browsers and the operating system are included. In order for WebGL to function on a computer, the Graphics Driver is also required.
Today, we’ll look into how to resolve this issue on your most recent browsers-
- Manually enable WebGL on Chrome or Firefox
- Update your Graphics Card Driver.
1] Manually enable WebGL on Chrome or Firefox
To begin, open Google Chrome and select the Menu option (by clicking on the three dots button on the top right corner). Then select Settings. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Advanced button.
Turn on the toggle labeled “Use hardware acceleration when available” under the System section.
Chrome should be restarted.
When it comes back up, type chrome://gpu/ into the address bar and press Enter.
This will now show whether WebGL is enabled or not.
Alternatively, open the Google Chrome browser and go to chrome:/flags in the address bar. Disable WebGL can be found in the search bar at the top of the page. Toggle Disabled on the corresponding entry. To make the changes take effect, restart Google Chrome.
This will allow Google Chrome’s touch-friendly User Experience.
The following steps can be taken by Firefox users. To disable Hardware Acceleration in Firefox, open the browser > Options.
Scroll down a little in the General section to find Performance. Check the box that says “Use hardware acceleration when available.”
Firefox should be restarted.
2] Update your Graphics Card Driver
Open Device Manager from the WinX menu. Expand the Display Adapters section of the list.
Choose Enable your NVIDIA Graphics Card by right-clicking on its listing. Right-click it once more and select Update Driver Software…
There will be a new window that appears. Select Search automatically for updated driver software from the drop-down menu.
If Windows now recognizes your graphics card and displays the most recent driver for it, that’s fantastic! Otherwise, take these steps:
- Right-click it once more and select Update Driver Software…
- Select Browse my computer for driver software from the drop-down menu.
- Choose Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
- Select NVIDIA Graphic Card as a compatible driver for your machine and continue.
Allow the process to complete. Then restart your computer to see the changes take effect.
