Fix: Microsoft Store App Stuck on Starting Download

Is your Microsoft Store app stuck on starting download?

For a long time, Windows was the only operating system without a central repository for app downloads. Windows users had to download each program separately from several sources, which was no small task to organize.

Fortunately, Windows debuted the Microsoft Store in 2012, and this digital distribution channel has grown since then. The Microsoft Store now has a large selection of both paid and free digital content. This does not, however, imply that the Windows Store is error-free.

It is not uncommon for users to encounter small issues while using the Microsoft Store. Some users have recently reported that the Microsoft Store app is stuck in the middle of a download. This can be aggravating, particularly if you’re in a hurry.

You’ve come to the right place if you’re having this problem as well.

We’ve put up a list of quick fixes that will get you back up and running in no time.

Let’s get this party started.

  • 1. Run the Windows Troubleshooter.
  • 2. Reset Microsoft Store Cache.
  • 3. Adjust Time, Date, and Region Settings.
  • 4. Sign out/ Sign in with the Microsoft account.
  • 5. Run SFC Scan.
  • 6. Re-register the Microsoft Store.
  • 7. Run DISM Scan.
  • 8. Fix Problems With Windows Update.
  • 9. Reset Windows Update.

1. Run the Windows Troubleshooter.

When accessing the Microsoft Store, consumers frequently encounter issues. Fortunately, Windows includes built-in programs that allow users to scan and repair apps.

The Windows troubleshooter is one such built-in utility that comes in help when your computer starts to malfunction. A troubleshooter automatically detects and resolves problems.

We recommend running the Windows troubleshooter if the Microsoft Store app is stuck in a ‘pending’ state and unable to download anything. Hopefully, it will fix the problem quickly.

To run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter, follow the steps below:

1. To enter the Settings app, press the Windows + I keys at the same time.

2. Select Update & Security from the drop-down menu.

3. From the left panel, select Troubleshoot and scroll down to the Windows Store Apps option.

4. Select Windows Store Apps from the drop-down menu. To begin the troubleshooting procedure, click Run the troubleshooter.

5. Wait until the troubleshooter has finished scanning. If the troubleshooter identifies a problem and suggests a solution, follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the issue.

6. After that, restart your computer to see if the problem has been repaired.

The Microsoft Store should now be able to finish downloads without any problems.

2. Reset Microsoft Store Cache.

The operating system saves the requested files for later use when you visit a web page or download an application on your PC. These files are referred to as ‘cached files,’ and they aid the system in retrieving data more quickly. Apps on your PC, such web browsers, keep their own cached files.

There are situations when the cached files get corrupted, resulting in program errors.

If you can’t download anything from the Microsoft Store, it’s likely that corrupt cached files are at blame. Because removing cached files is safe, you can resolve this issue by clearing the Microsoft Store cache. As a result, the cache will be cleared, and the error will most likely be resolved.

Here’s how to clear the cache in the Microsoft Store:

1. To open elevated Command Prompt, type Command Prompt in the search bar and click Run as administrator.

2. In the elevated Command Prompt, type the command listed below and press Enter to run it.

wsreset.exe

3. Restart your computer after the process is finished to see if the error has been addressed.

Resetting the cache will fix any issues caused by a corrupted cached file. If the problem persists, try the next technique listed below.

3. Adjust Time, Date, and Region Settings.

Several apps, including the Microsoft Store, will fail to reply if the time, date, and time zone on your PC are incorrect. This is because before doing certain operations, these programs check the system for certificates. The certificates will be regarded invalid if the date or time on your computer is incorrect. As a result, your PC’s programs will become unresponsive.

If your Microsoft Store program on your PC won’t start a download, try changing the time and date on your computer.

Here’s how to go about it:

1. Write Date & Time in the search bar and choose Open to launch the Settings window.

2. Verify the Time Zone.

3. Turn the Set time automatically option on.

4. Click on Sync Now in the Synchronize Your Clock.

5. Lastly, check the Microsoft Store to see if the problem has been fixed.

You should be able to download programs from the Microsoft Store with no problems now.

4. Sign out/ Sign in with the Microsoft account.

The Microsoft Store may be stuck due to a malfunction in your account. Several people have stated that logging out and then back in to their Microsoft Store account has helped them in this situation.

If the problem persists, try logging out and then back into your Microsoft Store account. Hopefully, this will resolve the issue on your computer.

Here’s how you can go about it:

1. Select your Profile icon in the upper right corner of the Microsoft Store.

2. To log out of your account, click Sign out.

3. Close and reopen the Microsoft Store app.

4. Select Sign in by clicking on the User icon.

5. Check to see if the error has been repaired by entering your credentials.

If the problem was caused by a bug in your account, this will fix it. If the issue occurs again, try the next technique listed below.

5. Run SFC Scan.

SFC (System File Checker) is a built-in program that allows users to scan for and repair system corruption faults. If the Windows troubleshooter fails to resolve the issue, do the SFC scan.

Here’s what you should do:

1. In the search bar, type cmd and select Run as administrator.

2. Type the command indicated below into the elevated Command Prompt window and press Enter to run it.

sfc /scannow

3. Restart your computer once the operation is finished.

This will allow the System File Checker to look for problems and, if any are detected, rectify them.

6. Re-register the Microsoft Store.

Re-registering the Microsoft Store is another simple solution to the problem. Re-registering the app is similar to reset it, but you will not lose any data in the process. This will return the app to its original state.

To re-register the Microsoft Store, follow the steps below:

1. To open PowerShell with administrative capabilities, simultaneously press the Windows + X keys and click on Windows PowerShell (Admin).

2. Type the command listed below into the PowerShell window and press Enter to run it.

Get-AppXPackage WindowsStore -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

3. After the process is finished, restart your computer to see if the problem has been resolved.

Re-registering the Microsoft Store app should hopefully resolve the issue.

7. Run DISM Scan.

DISM, like the Windows troubleshooter and System File Checker (SFC), is a built-in Windows program. This program searches the system for corruption and tries to fix any problems it discovers. When the SFC fails to fix issues, the DISM tool is usually employed.

Try conducting a DISM scan if the Microsoft Store app on your PC is stuck on commencing download and the System File Checker hasn’t fixed the problem. It will search the system for problems and automatically correct them.

Here’s how to perform a DISM scan:

1. In the search bar, type cmd and select Run as administrator.

2. Now, at the elevated Command Prompt, type the command listed below and press Enter.

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

3. After that, restart your computer to see if the problem has been repaired.

You should be able to download apps without any problems at this point. If the DISM tool fails to resolve the problem, proceed to the next method listed below.

8. Fix Problems With Windows Update.

Several people have reported success with Windows Update in resolving the Microsoft Store problem. We encourage you to give it a try, even if it appears to be irrelevant. Hopefully, this will resolve the problem on your computer.

Here’s what you should do:

1. To open the Settings window, type Troubleshooting in the search field and click Open.

2. Select Windows Update from the Get up and running section.

3. To complete the process, click Run the troubleshooter and follow the on-screen instructions.

That is all there is to it. You can now see if running the Windows Update troubleshooter on your PC fixed the problem.

9. Reset Windows Update.

Try resetting Windows Update if none of the other ways above work for you. Your PC’s Microsoft Store and Windows Update difficulties will be resolved as a result of this.

Here’s how to reinstall Windows Update on your computer:

1. To open Services, type services.msc in the search field and click Open.

2. To disable Windows Update, choose it from the list of available services and click Stop.

3. Now browse to the SoftwareDistribution folder on the Local Disk (C:).

4. SoftwareDistributionOLD is the new name for the SoftwareDistribution folder.

5. Return to the Services window and select the Windows Update service to enable.

6. Lastly, access Microsoft Store and verify that the problem has been repaired.

The download troubles on your PC will be resolved once and for all if you reset Windows Update.
