Call of Duty: Warzone, also referred to as Warzone or CoD: Warzone, is a popular free-to-play battle royale game. CoD: Warzone gained huge traction this past year with its launch on March 10th, 2020. However, many players aren’t able to enjoy the experience as they are facing problems that keep crashing in the game. One error showing up for many users is a DirectX error that says: “DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error. Check the readme for possible solutions”.
Basically, DirectX-related issues are caused by a problem with your computer and it has nothing to do with the game servers.

Method 1. Restart Warzone and Blizzard app
The first thing you’ll want to do is exit Warzone normally and close the Blizzard application completely
If necessary, try pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL to open Task Manager and then close both programs.
If the Warzone DirectX Unrecoverable Error still persist after you’ve restarted the game and launcher, the next good thing that you can do is to restart the computer.
Method 2. Scan & Repair Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
Many COD Warzone players fixed all sorts of errors by using a built-in Blizzard app file repair tool. This can be helpful if the cause of the issue is corrupted game files. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Launch the Blizzard Battle.net desktop app.
2. Select on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from the left menu
3. Click Options and then click on “Scan and Repair” from the menu.
4. Now, you can click “Begin Scan“. Wait for the repair to finish.
Method 3. Install Additional Shaders
Then, you’ll want to make sure you install the additional shaders that install automatically when you launch the game. Launch Call of Duty: Warzone and you should see a notification towards the top of the screen that additional shaders are downloading and installing.
Wait until this process is finished.
Method 4. Turning off Hardware Monitoring Software
If you have any software running that is designed for overclocking your video card/processor or monitors your hardware, you will want to disable those and potentially run your processor and video card at stock clock speeds. Some popular software for this is GIGABYTE EasyTune, MSI Afterburner, AMD Overdrive, and EVGA Precision X. Disable these programs and then try opening up Call of Duty: Warzone again to check if you get the same DirectX error.
If you run RivaTuner Statistics Server, open it up and change detection level to “none”, as below shown:
Method 5. Run game in DirectX11 mode
Many Warzone issues were solved by forcing the game to run DirectX 11 mode instead of DirectX 12. Follow these steps below and check if that will help you fix your Warzone DirectX Unrecoverable Error.
1. Launch Blizzard app
2. Click on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game in the left panel.
3. Click on Options and select Game Settings.
4. Enable ADDITIONAL COMMAND LINE ARGUMENTS.
5. In the box, type “-D3D11“. Click “Done” to save changes.
Launch the game again and check if the issue returns.
Method 6. Delete COD cache
If you’ve encountered an unrecoverable error, we would recommend you delete the game’s cache. Here are the steps:
1. Close Warzone and Blizzard applications.
2. Go to C:\Users\[your name]\Documents\Call of Duty Modern Warfare\
3. Delete all the stuff in the Call of Duty Modern Warfare folder.
Open COD Warzone again and check if the issue is fixed or you still encountered an unrecoverable error.
Method 7. Update Video Card Drivers
Go to AMD’s website or open up your GeForce Experience depending on your brand of the video card. If you have an Nvidia card, click “Check For Updates” to scan for new drivers.
If you don’t have the computer skills, time, or patience to update your audio driver manually, we would recommend you do it automatically with Driver Easy. Driver Easy will automatically scan your computer and look for the correct driver for your exact video card, and it will download and install them correctly:
1. Download and install Driver Easy on your computer.
2. Launch Driver Easy and click Scan Now. Driver Easy will then recognize your system and detect any problem drivers.
3. Click the Update button next to the flagged audio driver to automatically download and install the correct version of that driver.
Alternatively, you can also click Update All to automatically download and install the correct version of all the drivers that are missing or out of date on your system.
